The Musician Speaks To JAntho CHO
The muso started making music in the sixth grade; he's currently working on a some videos.
JAntho CHO is from Kansas City, Missouri, a city which he describes as having a high crime rate.
Raised by a single mother, JAntho CHO talks about how she put him in different classes to ‘enhance my speech and vocabulary’.
At five, he was playing basketball; and at seven, he was playing baseball.
The muso, who makes ‘psychedelic, spiritual music’, says he ‘grew up fighting a lot’.
It was in the sixth grade, that he started making music, linking up with his friend, DWadeNo2K, forming the group Time Is Money.
His weakness, he says, is making more music than he can release.
On his approach to making music, the muso whose favourite musician is Kendrick Lamar, says: ‘We all are made up of energy and vibe at different frequencies, so when it comes to making music I create from a perspective of innerstanding, off the type of artist I am, to how people consume music, to even universal frequencies, and just becoming one with everything that is.’
L. SOJINI: Can you tell us about yourself? Where you’re from and what kind of musician you are. How did you get into music?
JANTHO CHO: I’m from Kansas City, Missouri. Growing up, it was a mix of different aspects that influenced me throughout my upbringing and helped shape me into the person I am today.
Kansas City is high in crime, so it’s a lot going on in the streets.
My mother was a single parent, and taught me a lot from a very early age. She put me in different classes and activities to enhance my speech and vocabulary, and also led me to learning Spanish at a very early age.
I started playing basketball around age five, and baseball around age seven. I also grew up fighting a lot, and slowly started getting introduced to more street activity through people I linked up with.
I am a musician, entrepreneur, and energy worker. I make psychedelic, spiritual music. I create music that is influenced and enlightened by psychedelics.
I first started making music when I was in the sixth grade, and when I moved to Lee’s Summit, Missouri, in seventh grade, I met up with my best friend DWadeNo2K, and we formed a group called Time is Money and we started making music together.
When I was sixteen I had my first psychedelic experience with LSD. Throughout the years of experimenting with psychedelics, even after graduating high school, I gained a lot of knowledge about myself and the proper intended use of psychedelics and the role that they play in my music and my “CHO Movement” and how I could use my voice to reach people who are unaware of themselves in the sense of self-worth, and self-actualization.
L. SOJINI: What do you think makes good music?
JANTHO CHO: I believe good music is comprised of the energy and emotion that someone puts into it. There’s certain feeling that resonates when someone is listening to your song and can connect with it in a way beyond words.
L. SOJINI: What are your strengths and weaknesses as a musician?
JANTHO CHO: I’m very in tune with myself and my sound. I can definitely say I have a unique sound that captivates people, and have grown my movement in a way around my music that has amassed a worldwide following.
A weakness I feel I have is feeling like I have so much music saved up that sometimes I can’t release the music that’s more here and now because I create so much music at a time that I have a lot of projects and albums I’m sitting on and sometimes it makes me feel like I’m behind on where the music I create where I’m at as an artist versus where I’ve been as an artist.
L. SOJINI: What are you currently working on?
JANTHO CHO: Currently I’m working on some videos for my CHOLo and CHOLo DLX Album, and my project Cloud 180 2 that I’ve been promoting and am set to release a few from those projects within the next couple months from now
L. SOJINI: How do you approach music? As in, what’s your philosophy when it comes to making music?
JANTHO CHO: The beauty of being a musician is to bring your perspective into perspective. I see the works for what it is, not what it’s been made up to be. My experiences in life, from taking psychedelics to making psychedelics have attuned how I convey my music to people.
We all are made up of energy and vibe at different frequencies, so when it comes to making music I create from a perspective of innerstanding, off the type of artist I am, to how people consume music, to even universal frequencies, and just becoming one with everything that is.
L. SOJINI: What are you most proud of to have achieved as a musician?
JANTHO CHO: My most proud achievement so far is founding my own record label, Cloud Committee Entertainment.
L. SOJINI: How do you promote your music?
JANTHO CHO: I promote my music via Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and through my website.
L. SOJINI: Favourite musician? Why?
JANTHO CHO: My favorite musician is Kendrick Lamar because I really resonate with the things he talks about. There’s some things that he went through in life that I’ve been through and am going through so I can really relate to him as well.
L. SOJINI: What’s your advice or message to fellow musicians?
JANTHO CHO: My advice to musicians: you are the master of your own universe. You are the creator of your destiny.
Believe that you have the power to achieve your dreams and don’t let anyone tell you you can’t. We all have the opportunity to become whatever we choose to be and to reach it to the fullest potential.
Know that your power comes from your mindset; the strongest mindset is able to achieve much more because you are that much more aware of yourself and your talents, gifts, and abilities.
Awesome!
