No More Dancing For You
What's happening in 'Dance For You', the new song by Empress Of? I don't think I have a complete answer, but my wild guess might be right.
Things change. That’s my reading of ‘Dance For You’, Empress Of’s new single from her new EP, Save Me. Set to be released in June, currently the EP has spawned two singles, ‘Dance For You’ and ‘Save Me’.
The song’s lyrics has a fascinating architecture.
In one line, she sings
Forget I used to dance
And then in the next line, she repeats the same words, only adding ‘for you’
Forget I used to dance for you
Who is this ‘you’? Is it an ex-lover? And why she does she say ‘Forget I used to dance for you’?
‘Dance For Me’ reminds me of George Michael’s ‘Careless’ Whisper (I’m never gonna dance again), and also reminds of John Legend’s ‘Used To Love U’.
While George Michael could dance no more, that is because he was the one at fault in the relationship. In Empress Of’s case, I feel that she’s the one done wrong.
